Family Cookbook ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive:

• Apple User ID — a unique, app-specific identifier
• Name — if you choose to share it (first sign-in only)
• Email — if you choose to share it (first sign-in only)

This information is stored securely in your device's Keychain and is never sent to our servers.

Content You Create

Recipes, photos, family members, places, stories, and other content you add to the app are stored locally on your device. This data only leaves your device if you enable iCloud sync (see below).

Device Permissions

• Camera — to take photos of recipes
• Photo Library — to select existing photos for recipes

Photos are stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account if sync is enabled.

2. iCloud Sync (CloudKit)

If your device has iCloud enabled, your recipes and family data sync to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. This allows you to:

• Access your recipes across your Apple devices
• Share family cookbooks with family members you invite

When you share a family cookbook, invited members can view and edit recipes in that shared family. CloudKit is Apple's first-party service — your data is stored in your iCloud account, not on our servers.

3. In-App Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple's App Store. We never receive or store your payment information, billing address, or credit card details.

4. What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not use analytics or crash reporting SDKs
• We do not use advertising frameworks or track you across apps
• We do not collect device identifiers (IDFA)
• We do not collect precise location data
• We do not sell, share, or monetize your data in any way
• We have no servers — all data stays on your device or in your iCloud account

5. Data Sharing

Your data is only shared with:

• Family members you invite — they can view and edit recipes in shared family cookbooks via CloudKit
• Apple — for Sign in with Apple, iCloud sync, and in-app purchases

We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

• Local data is stored on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app
• iCloud data persists in your iCloud account until you delete it from the app or your iCloud settings
• Sign out removes your credentials from the device Keychain
• Delete the app removes all local data from your device

You can delete individual recipes, family members, places, and families at any time within the app.

7. Children's Privacy

Family Cookbook is designed for families. If children under 13 use the app, a parent or guardian should manage their Apple ID and iCloud account in accordance with Apple's Family Sharing policies. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.

8. Security

We protect your data using:

• iOS Keychain encryption for credentials
• HTTPS for all network communications
• Apple's CloudKit encryption for synced data
• On-device processing for photo handling

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
